Students will listen to the ‘Story Pirates’ podcast made based off of Aliyah’s story, "The Bike that is a Car". Students can have pre-listening conversations where they make predictions about the story based on the title. After listening to the podcast students can share what they thought of the story- what they liked/disliked/found humorous/would change/questions they have. Reflect that Aliyah was 6 when she wrote this- idea that anyone can share their stories/ideas. Sharing can be done in groups or whole class discussion.
For older grade students can listen to the podcast through an assigned critical lens
Purple Lens- what are the facts in the story - retell main points
Red Lens- what feelings does the story evoke?
Blue Lens- what connections can you make to the story?
Yellow Lens-what was enjoyable about the story?
Green Lens- questions you have about the story?
Orange Lens-what is the main idea of the story?
Have students break into groups with each lens colour in a group and discuss the Podcast from their perspective/lens. Or all the same lens can meet and compare observations.
