Aliyah Rotman was a creative kid who had many wonderful ideas and thought of the world in a wonderfully complex, playful, uninhibited and expansive way. She loved stories and storytelling. Everyday objects such as half an eraser or a banana became characters. Her imagination was limitless. Even in her stories, issues such as taking care of the environment, perseverance, and equity were thought of.
When Aliyah was in grade one, she told a story that her mother scribed, and sent it off to the Podcast `Story Pirates’. 'Story Pirates' is an award winning American podcast that takes children’s stories and turns them into songs and sketches/plays. In the fall of 2022, Aliyah’s story, “The Bike that is a Car” was aired on ‘Story Pirates’.
Sadly Aliyah died at age 7 on March 9th 2022. However her creativity and ideas live on and can help encourage others to create wacky characters and tell meaningful and funny stories.
I hope after listening to Aliyah’s podcast you are inspired to have your class write and share their own adventures, build and create their own ‘bikes that are cars’ and engage in their imagination and creativity as Aliyah did.

Dear colleagues and friends, first I want to thank you for reading through this website and hopefully engaging with Aliyah’s story through some of the activities I’ve created. For a parent whose child has died, it is one of our biggest fears that our kid will be forgotten. I don’t want that to happen to Aliyah. She was an incredible person.
This website is a labour of love. I’m not a curriculum writer. I’m a grieving mother and elementary school teacher with nearly 20 years in the classroom, finding a way to channel my creativity and passion for sharing Aliyah with as many classes and students as possible in meaningful ways.
Please use and share this website with your colleagues and friends. I highly recommend double checking links/websites before sharing them with your class. Feel free to use as is or modify for your class needs and interests.
I welcome feedback and you sharing other activities related to Aliyah’s story/podcast that you created. To help me improve the site and activities, please share feedback through this link https://forms.gle/9jz6Y37F3Lf7UHoJ9 Alternatively, you can reach me at sari.stillman@gmail.com
Yours,
Sari and Aliyah
